A0004 - Lokvica - Cavern-chapel with an inscription
Text description
A valley behind Nad Logem Hill hides a very interesting cavern-chapel with an interesting inscription: "IVI S'ACQUETA L'ALMA SBIGOTTITA". The verse is taken from a poem by the famous Italian poet Francesco Petrarka. In the English language the verse could be translated as "Here one finds a moment of peace amid the horrors of war".

After the fall of San Michele on 12th August 1916 the Quota 212 or "Nad Logem" was taken by the units of the Italian Infantry Brigade "Lombardia". The quota has been used during the Seventh, Eight and Nineth Isonzo Battles as a starting point for the attacks on Cerje (Veliki Hrib – Veliki Hribak) and Pecinka.

The inscription above the entrance to the cavern reflects a sense of security which the soldiers had, as they entered into this underground shelter.
