A0232 - Saksid - A memorial plaque dedicated to the builders of the railway line.
Text description
The plaque, which is dedicated to the builders of the railway, is situated on a support wall of an embankment by the location of an abandoned railway line from the First World War.

The 2.8 km long line connects Steska on the railway line Prvacina – Villa Opicina and Batuje on the railway line Prvacina – Ajdovscina. The railway station at Prvacina was namely under constant Italian artillery bombardment, therefore the Austrians decided to built this connection through the Pekel gorge by the Vipava River. After the first crossing of the Viapava River the line ran on the right bank next to the village of Saksid into the Pekel gorge, where it again crossed the river. Under the Lesce ridge it turned towards Batuje, where, just before the station, it again crossed the river. The 12th and 26th k.u.k. Railway Companies which constructed the railway started their construction work on 1st September 1916 and finished exactly three months later.

Location description
The support wall with the memorial plaque is by the location of the railway line which led from the village of Saksida through the slopes with vineyards towards the northeast in the Pekel gorge.
