A0007 - Lokvica - Tombstone dedicated to Artilleryman Angelo Giobellino
Text description
After the fall of Cerje (Veliki hrib – Quota 343) the big valley Srcandol (the Italians called it the Santa Barbara Valley) became an important base of the Italian artillery. Here was stationed a battery of 75mm guns as well as a battery of 152mm guns on a fixed gun mount. The valley also served as a reception and evacuation point for the wounded during the period from May to August 1917. There was also a temporary military cemetery.
In the valley has been located a broken grave dedicated to Artilleryman Angelo Giobellino, who belonged to the 38th Italian Field Artillery Regiment and was killed on 23rd May 1917 during the 10th Isonzo Battle.
The plaque has been restorated in 2003 (unfortunately not very professionally) and placed near the original site.
