A0205 - Vodice - A memorial erected in honour of the Austro-Hungarian General Novak von Arienti.
Text description
The memorial which is situated on a ridge between Mt. Kuk and Mt. Vodice was erected in honour and memory of General Guido Novak von Arienti, who commanded the 1st Gebirgs-Brigade in the early battles on the Isonzo Front (1915) and successfully defended the sector between Plave and Mt. Vodice. Later, during the Tenth Isonzo Battle, General Novak von Arienti commanded the 62nd Infantry Division, which held the sector between Avce and Mt. Santo.
According to the writings of the Austrian war correspondent and writer Alice Schalek the monument was originally standing near to the place where the general was wounded.
